Description
Mcallister is the story of a young woman, Violet, who is empowered to enlist in World War I after facing ridicule surrounding her gender. Violet Mcallister is widely beloved throughout her hometown in Connecticut, as she comes from a highly respected family. In a time where many women were expected to stay home and learn the craft of motherhood, Violet found work as a model for war propaganda posters. When faced with the tragedy of watching the men and boys around her be drafted, along with the harsh words of a crude artist, Violet becomes inspired to join the war effort herself and fight overseas. Mcallister depicts Violet’s journey through fighting the Great War of the nations, the Great War of women, and the Great War existing within herself. Having to overcome misogyny, gender stereotypes, and the social expectations in which she defies, Violet’s story is one of empowerment, learning, and growth.
